Saltwater Fishing in British Columbia

Salmon fishing in British Columbia is as the adventure of a lifetime. With an area as unique and culturally diverse as this province it is not hard to understand why B.C. is one of the most highly sought after salmon fishing destination in the world.

Year round fishing opportunities exist and we are able to offer a few of the most enjoyable adventures around. We extend the length of our saltwater adventures to accommodate at least a full tide swing so that you are on fish throughout the day.  Our adventures also include crabbing and prawns during season.

We begin our season as early as February. This time of year we are searching for early feeder Chinooks that are hunting bait within Vancouver harbour. These salmon range anywhere between four and ten pounds although we often catch larger fish. Many of these fish are caught with nothing but a trolled spoon. This gives you the best fight these smaller fish can give.

Our salmon season really starts producing some great fish during the summer and keeps producing great fish right up to November. The Fraser river is one of the worlds most prolific salmon bearing river and most of the salmon in our area stage off of Vancouver and feed in these waters before heading up the Fraser to spawn. The Chinooks bound for the Fraser average between twenty and thirty pounds. During the later part of the summer Coho begin to show up and are very aggressive, we are often not able to get gear down to the Chinooks before the Coho have grabbed the gear.   This means great fish and fishing for our guests.

September marks the month of the biggest fish of the year. The Harrison river white springs begin their annual trek up to this famed river and they hold along the Vancouver shoreline feeding heavily before returning up river.

Swiftwater guiding is lucky because not only do we target these great fish in their tidal environment but we follow them up to the river and fish them their as well. We love this river and the monsters it produces

After your adventure your fish will be cleaned, iced and packed in coolers for your trip back home or to the hotel. Many guests stay with hotels arranged by Swiftwater for them either in the city or with us in the country. If you choose to stay with one of the hotels we arrange, they will keep your catch frozen until your departure.
